Green for Days - Let's Hope it Was Just the "January Effect"

The markets rallied hard into the close on Friday for the second day in a row. Hopefully, we see the pattern continue into Monday which will be a big day because Alphabet (GOOG) is reporting after the bell. There will be many companies reporting their fourth quarter this week. Things may become a little turbulent in certain sectors because of it potentially sparking more volatility. A key to remember is to always be cautious holding any stock into its earnings report. It's generally a bad idea unless you are long the stock anyhow. For example, I'm long Disney (DIS) so I will hold through their Q4 report regardless of ESPN or whatever else analysts may be predicting as a speculative negative blow to the stock.  Disney doesn't report until February 9th. Regardless, following the insiders for companies that you are considering investing or trading is always a smart idea whether going into earnings or not.

There are other major factors that I'm following this upcoming week. The Drug Price Hearing on Thursday may affect the healthcare sector, mainly biotech's which are one of my favorite plays nowadays. My little biotech Amedica (AMDA) is rapidly closing in on their FDA approval date. Hopefully, they aren't bunched into the "Drug Price" factor since their products are interbody fusion devices (along with other revolutionary products in the pipeline) & not "drugs" per say. Either way, this is a company I invest in so I'll stick it out for the time being while just trading a little of it along the way.

Enough about all that stuff, here are the lists I compiled from Friday, January 29, 2016:

I can't wait to be done with these massive 13G lists. I'm sorry if you see some repeats on the list. I tried to consolidate but they came in so sporadic that sometimes it's hard because of the montany. Hopefully, all of the funds have completed their reallocations. On that note, my posting will be lighter in February & March because I'll be teaching a lot more lessons at Winter Park Resort & will not have as much free time to track & blog. Since I'll be posting less, I'll try to give a little more content in the posts again whenever possible.

On the insider buying side of the spectrum, the largest purchase yesterday again went to Mr. Warren Buffett who purchased $198,406,824 worth of Phillips 66 (PSX) shares. The second highest buy was substantially smaller but still a large purchase made by Elon Musk who acquired $3,527,160 more shores of Tesla (TSLA). BioCryst Pharmaceuticals (BCRX) definitely stood out to me for multiple reasons including the buyer being Felix Baker & the FDA approval they have coming within the next two weeks. I've traded BCRX before & it's time for me to view the chart again. The CFO's who were buying up shares of their companies work for: ZION, ABTX, HBHC, DAIO, GMT & KMG.

On the sale side of Friday's insiders, I have Proctor & Gamble (PG) as the largest sale with insiders selling $27,873,339 worth of shares. PG beat earnings estimates for their fourth quarter last Tuesday. Unitedhealth Group (UNH) had the second largest insider sale with $22,660,700 worth of shares sold. UNH also beat their Q4 earnings estimate back on January 19. The most interesting sale I saw went to Yahoo (YHOO) with Marissa Mayer plus their CFO & a director selling off more of their shares headed into their fourth quarter earnings report this upcoming Monday. It'll be interesting to see how Yahoo did in their last quarter of 2015. We know Alibaba (BABA) beat their estimates but I'm really not sure that will impact Yahoo shares. Anyhow, the CFO's that were selling shares of their company work for: FNLC, YHOO, ZAYO, UBA, VTR, SMTC, APEI, NSC, BXMT, KITE, CIEN, QRCH, PG, CBSH, HXL, UMPQ, OTVI, CTO, CR, CUBI, MPX, VASC, RTEC, MSCI, HH, RGC, LSTR & BMR.

Friday's announcement of the Bank of Japan's interest rate reversal definitely made things interesting.  I'm surprised it didn't derail our markets but the bulls were in full force for the last day of January. There's been speculation that China may follow suit. If we are shocked with that news on Monday, I'll be looking to enter a position in TVIX or UVXY. I'll try to hold out until after Alphabet (GOOG) reports but I'll likely base my entry on the thirty & five minute candle charts, regardless.

In all, I hope that everyone was able to find green in their portfolio last week & will in the week to come. I also hope that this insider report helps some traders & investors out there. Have a great weekend!
