Long Weekend Homework - Happy Easter

Long weekends make us all a bit stir crazy when it comes to our investments or trades. There are so many factors that can impact the world markets which makes for uneasiness with many of our positions. Either way, I hope that the long weekend fares well for the sake of our uncertainty. After all, there is nothing we can do about it until the market reopens on Monday. That being said, I hope that everyone has a peaceful & Happy Easter weekend.

Now for my insider tracking from Thursday, March 24, 2016:

13D's (from 3/24/16): AFSI, BRTX, OREX, CDK, UPLD, SHAK, SRCH, SBCF, DLB (2), CWEI, WLB, JCS, SQNM, TMH, HTBX, WOR, CAS, COLL, NOEEE (2), PLCSF, STAA, TBPH & ABY

13G's (from 3/24/16): CAPS, WHLR, HTBX, ARLZ & RXDX

Just because the markets were closed on Good Friday, March 25, 2016, does not mean that forms filed from days prior do not still push through. They still do & in my opinion, these are the most stealth forms because the come on a day where nobody is looking. Here are the few that I caught:

13D's (from 3/25/16): TCFC, ULGX, INAP, TRVY (2), INAP, IESC, ULGX, KOOL, AVTD, GPCM, RICE, TMPS, SPPR, EPI (2), INNV, AM, PTGI, FMD & PFSW

13G's (from 3/25/16): PSG

Form 4's (Insider Buys from 3/25/16): OVAS (2), FLKS, CSGS (4) & GMRE (2)

Form 4's (Insider Sales from 3/25/16): ZAYO, DXCM, SHAK, FNF, QCOM, PFPT, VEEV, HD (3), LB, AGNC, ABMD (2) & PE.

From what I gathered, the largest insider buys via Form 4's were for Global Medical REIT (GMRE) purchasing $35,864,074 worth of shares on Thursday & about the same on Friday. The second largest buy via From 4 on Thursday was for Mattress Firm (MFRM) totaling $26,208,267 worth of shares. The CFO's who were purchasing shares of the company they work for only go to EXCC & CSGS for both days. I'm going to pay extra close attention to the forms that pushed through on Friday; especially the ones that repeat from Thursday.

On the sale side, the largest sale on a Form 4 goes to Larry Page (co-founder of Google) of his Alphabet (GOOG) shares selling $50,042,104 worth of his stock. The second highest with multiple sellers via Form 4's was for Pepco Holdings (POM) totaling $45,771,248 worth of their shares. I also wanted to add an honorable mention for Vera Bradley (VRA) with insiders selling $21,209,694 worth of their shares. The CFO's who were selling shares over the course of the two days’ work for: DCO, LOCK, IART, HD, SPPI, TECD, FIX, QCOM, CMN, YUME, BFAM & POM.

I hope that this helps & enjoy the rest of your weekend!

13G's Not Included - Insiders From Last Friday

So last week was fun but this week should be more exciting for everyone looking for nice bounce up in our markets. Thankfully, I sold off 95% of my TVIX on Friday. I'll likely shop for another entry into it if it gets low enough but I'm hoping the rally continues all week. I was lucky enough to get into DUST for a great price & wish I held more UWTI for tomorrow but whatever. I'll try for it in the morning but if I don't catch my bid before I head off to teach, it's okay. I also have a biotech that I feel may be a blockbuster & can't wait to see where it goes. Finally, I am looking forward for DIS to bounce back. Let's hope we go green tomorrow & for the rest of the week.

As for my data collecting on Friday, I have everything but the 13G list. It is still far too extensive for me to include. If you are invested in a stock that had a recent 13G filed, I'm sure that you are aware of it. I'll get back to 13G's when the list entails less than 500. That being said, here are the one's I gathered from Friday, February 12:

13D's: CAB, SMID, PTSX, FSNN, YUME, MNOV, GM, TPUB, STON, ATTU, DL, MB, PIP, CANV, DERM, TTNP, WIZD, FIBK, ARWR, SGHS, IHI, MERC, SMLP, UCLE, SCON, ALSN, WHF (2), JONE, BBLU, PICO, ZMH, HMPR, NC (2), CPRT & INFU

Form 4's (Insider Acquirements for $0): WEX, VLY, CRDA, DRE (11), IIIN (11), CCUR, USG (10), ZBRA (6), AHL (11), NBBC (7), BPOP (7), OPY (4), TSO (3), ESL (7), MAS (8), CSX (19), WYN, MKSI (5), GOOG, HRS, WAT, NPK (5), CBL, SNBC, SMRT (4), ADM (8), WFBI, KEY, BPL (8), B (14), PNC (8), FBRC (6), MCO (5), NAVG, ALLE (2), DW (2), IR (2), BC (3), CMAM (4), PEB, HBI, REIS (4), LITE, NMIH (5), WCIC (2), PACW, SYK, SGNL, ETM (3), CBG (9), FXNC (2), FIS, FHN (5), DMD, SKYW (9), TNAV (2), COP (11), SLG (3), TNET (3), WERN (2), MSCI (2), OCLT, NAV (2), NEE (8), LNG, WWW (4), ICUI, OESX, TMUS, SSNI (7), PAGP, IHT (3), TWTR (4), CAVM (3), ICPT (5) & R (6)

Form 4's (Insider Sales): MDSO (4), RTNB, THG, ASRV, FNLC (2), USG (10), DRE (4), CLMS, CIEN, AHL (11), PCAR, BKH (7), HTLF (2), CARO (2), NBBC (7), NCS, QCOM, ACGL, CHD, TSO (3), QNST (5), NWL (2), AAP (8), ADX, PEO, MKSI (5), BCR (11), PG, CMI, AJG SMRT (3), FSFG, VRTX, CSL, PBF, AMWD, SPKE, EFX (2), BPL (8), JMBA, SYK, MTH (2), STI, NVIX, FFIV, PNC (8), ROG (3), IDA, L, INDB, EPM, TRMB, ADS, PPS, VASC, NAVG, ALLE, HSIC, TEL, KRO, GLW, DW (2), NATH, DOV, WCN (5), PEB, REIS (4), LITE, DPLO, HOS (4), MCFT, OAK, ULTI (4), HLT, UTX (3), WFT, CCF, SGNL, ETM (2), ZBH (2), NLSN (3), HA, IMS, BLD (3), XOXO, COF (11), CSCO (3), GBX, SMTC, PE, WERN (2), GOOG, OA (2), LNG, WWW (4), GBIM, ICUI, ARMK, ACHI, PARR, SSNI (7), LTC (4), ASGN, OSIS, AWR (1), JONE, PAHC (2), CC (7), GIG, DSPG, R (4), SLM (6), CALX, FFIV, HSIC, SKUL, CSCD, WGL, CBM, CMI & GS

Form 4's (Insider Disposals for $0): NYCB, DRE (4), MMM (2), BWA (12), RHI (4), HRS, WAT, LMRK, EMC (5), WHG, SFG (2), SYK, DMD, TNAV (2), TNET & PAGP

I don't have a ton of notes but I did write down that OPK had the highest buy at nearly $160 million worth of shares on the 12th, they had two more very similar buys on the 8th & 9th. This makes the list a lot & I can't wait to see what happens with it. Also, PSX had another significant purchase from Berkshire Hathaway for almost $80 million worth of shares. PSX was the second highest buy from Friday and has seen the list a lot. I also have the CFO's that are buying shares into their companies work for: BID, RRTS, CRDC, FMNB, OFC, CUB, ROG, OVBC, AAP, NWL, UTGN, BOFI & CAVM.

On the sale side I noted that GS was our largest sale from an insider selling over $355 million worth of shares. JONE was a distant yet significant second with $50 worth of shares. Finally, the CFO's I saw selling work for: EPM, CC, CIEN, MKSI, SLM, CC, AWR, LTC, SSNI, WERN, CSCO, BLD, RRTS, ULTI, HOS, REIS, PEB, WCN, DOV, TRMB, INDB, BPL, SMRT, BCR, QNST, NBBC, BKH, AHL, DRE & CMI.

I am actually going to be teaching skiing every trading day but Thursday this week so may not blog. I'll do it when I can, though. I hope everyone is able to find lots of green in their accounts tomorrow.

Exhausted in a Bear Market

Wow, I'm beat! I totally was exhausted all day which lead me straight into a stupid bull trap this morning. Dang it! I went off the five minute chart alone when I bought LABU. I've traded LABU/LABD before but it's been several months & I have never even viewed it's fact sheet until today, after it was too late. LABU would have been a heck of a short today but I went long & set a stop loss with intentions of going for a simple neighborhood stroll with my daughter only to return to find that my stop didn't take. In my mind, I was thinking I could average it down & sell it because the volatility scale on it is huge but as I look at the Asian markets & our futures, I'm thinking that's something I'll save for later in the game since things are looking ugly. I don't normally dive straight into one like this without more knowledge but I just kind of went for it today because I was exhausted & using poor judgement. Hopefully, I learned my lesson on this one or it makes an amazing turn around tomorrow but I'm not counting on the latter.

Now for Tuesday's insider transactions I saw. I know that there were more than these but I got as many as I could & hopefully somebody benefits off this list:

13G's: LRCX, MC, IPDN, LPT, NX, MCRI, MTRX, EVOK, MNI, III, UNB, CTLT, AERI, XCLL, REPR, NTGR, OCLR, CSIQ, OIIM, REGI, ABDC, KEM, KVHI, OESX, KTCC, KTOS, LMIA, TAX, LAYN, LDR, LYTS, LNN, MKSI, MVC, MYRG, EEI, JKHY, TALN, KLAC, KSS, LHO, EVI, LON, ACU, THST, LXFT, BDBD, MBUU, LRY, XGTI, CGIX, NSSC, CLCD, WGBS, AERI, STCK, MDLY, CMRX, NPK, NP, POZN, NANO, DSW, SUNE, NNBR, MUEL, MOV, MTX, ETH, MLR, CTRL, MDP & MRCY

I hate to sound like a broken record but pay close attention to insiders as we are amidst the fourth quarter reports for many companies. I didn't note for you whether the Form 13's were raised, lowered, new nor terminated but if it's a ticker you're interested in, I advise you pull the forms up to research. Also, pay attention the the repeaters that are seen day after day or the one's that cross multiple lists. This usually is a great signal that something is changing with the company that you are following.

That being said, here are the only notes I have to share beginning with the insider buys. Mr. Warren Buffett was our largest insider buyer scooping up almost $56 million worth of shares of Phillips 66 (PSX). He was joined by the board of director of PSX bringing the level invested into the company to a soaring mark. This was by far & away the largest purchase today. The most consistent purchase today went to AYR because that one has been daily for a long time now but HCI is beginning to follow suit. The difference today with HCI is that it did see some selling today but that was likely only a pre-planned transaction for the investor who's been buying this daily for quite sometime. As for the CFO's that I saw buying today, they work for the following companies: OCRX, PCAR, RSG, MDCRE, YORW, HAE, OHI, OLLI, SSFN, MNR, ASB & LAYN.  A couple of interesting buys I caught today from the Form 13's came through via Steve Cohen taking new stake in POZN & DSW. Welcome back, Steve! Julian bought some BLCM too, if anyone was wondering.

I didn't take too many notes on the selling side because nothing too out of the ordinary caught my eye. All that I have is that Mastercard (MA) was the largest sale dropping over $14 million worth of its own shares. I also noted that Chase (CCF) made the sale list following the credit card theme. Then I have the CFO's that work for the following companies disposing their shares: ABM, ARQL, BDIC, OLLI, SGY, HCN, CUK, CCL, BLD, IONS, PKY, GRPN, SWPH, ZEN, PENN, NBTB, XNPT, OAS, MAS, PDCE, HOV, CVLT, CBU, HCI, TINY, LEG, ATU & GB

Anyhow, tomorrow looks like another bad day for the street & I'm happily still in possession of some of my precious, super cheap TVIX. I hope everyone is able to find some sort of profit out there.

Ides of January

With the Ides of January upon us, we seemed to have put our foot on our accelerator straight towards the bear market that we have been preparing for. Though the media is still not declaring it, we seemed to have broken support of some of the major US indices. A bear market was declared within the European Stoxx 600 earlier in the day, before US markets had opened. This surely impacted the fear factor when markets did open in the US. Now that we are into a long weekend, it's a big wonder of where are markets are headed into Tuesday morning considering the rest of the international markets will be open on Monday. Typically, we'd see the red continue with a blow this big but it's still possible that we could see a relief rally come into play.

Regardless, I only sold some of the TVIX that I've been carrying since December 31st at over $11/share. I am still holding a fair amount of my initial purchase of TVIX through the weekend (& likely beyond).  I can always pick up more on Tuesday (or whatever day) it goes on sale.  This is my insurance during the decline.  Also, I wasn't comfortable holding DUST over the long weekend so I sold it just above $17.50/share. I was fortunate enough to find my portfolios in the green today & hope that I can continue making the right moves to keep it that way while we head into this ambiguity.

Now here were the insiders that I tracked on Friday:

Form 3's: NFBK, CLDB, MBVT, ACXM, KYE, CSRA, RWLK, KBIO (2), IPHS (2), LMOS, NFJ, KF, NCV, CHIN, APPF (2), TAT, NIE, TTPH, RESX (3), FDP, MYOS (2), MS, BLOX, MRTX (7), AAL, CSWI, ITG, PYPL & MJCO

Form 4's (Insider Buys): AYR, OPK, LTS (5), CSX (8), ARDX, CLMS (3), YORW 94), CNBKA (3), DCI, SO (7), JXSB, RELV, WCUI, TIPT, APPO, BPMX, ASFI, SXC, RIT (2), GTXI, DNP, SHLM (2), HCI, OXM, CERN (8), LIOX, VWR, PLUG (8), STAG (6), RT, BFK (2), MUH, BDCO (2), MQT (3), LII (10), ELNK, CUBE, BTA (2), MUE, RGC (10), VYGR, ABCP, AQXP (2), STAA, DRAM (2), TAT, TAX, BZM, GFN, NWIN (2, GPT, NC (7), JPM, PDEX (3), NOG, YUME, CCD (2), FUND, DTOR, HYB, FTF, GSBD, STR, ACV, CMCT (4), SYEV, OZRK, SCCO, LXRP, PSX, SHOS (2), GS, APRI, DYAX (4) & MDSY

Form 4's (Insider Acquirements for $0): HOFT (3), ADM, WR (3), BOKF, EV, NXST, TGT (24), LION, MHFI, HCCI (5), LMOS, CCBG, AKAM, VLP (3), CCBG, BAC, SHLM (29), AAC (9), MKL (2), KRC (15), TILE (10), WYNN (4), GDOT, GLPI (2), OZRK (10), WLL (11), ORBC, CIVI (11), LLEX, APIC (3), YELP, AIQ (4), RAIL (4), JPM (12), MRTX (2), CEQP (7), IM, VEEV (2), EML, DYNT (3), WDAY, PDVW (5), PAHC

Form 4's (Insider Sales): CSX (8), AEPI, DKS, WOR, JXSB, SO (7), WR (3), BOKF (5)CTAS, ACXM, EV, BCOR, CPE, WRK, LIND, NOW, DNP, SNX, BKEP (3), LIOX (4), ABCO, ADX, PFG, PEO, PKOH (2), FDS, MLHR, PANW, VRA, CHMT, PRTA, ATRA, NXTM, LOCK, BAC, SNCR, MNGA, SONC (3), PEG, KFRC, CVLT (5), CA, PLAV, MORE (2), VRTX, CATM, SCOR (2), IMPR, GDL, XOXO (2), TGT, WYNN (4), LC, GDOT, CTL, IDA, GLPI (2), GHDX, AFSI, ORBC, BDBD (10), MAA (6), YELP, GPT, FLTX, JPM (11), LKQ, PE, KSS (4), VEEV (2), PARR, SWKS, FGEN, CRM, QUES, HIVE, DIS, MCI, LCM, PN, EACO, GWRE, MAC, ZEN & RAX

Form 4's (Insider Disposals for $0): ADM, JXSB, TLMR, RGR, PDCE (2), CCBG, CERN, ATRO, ELNK, SHLM, WETF (4), MRTX (2), NVSL (13), WDAY (2) & HNRG

13D's: NOG, APPF (2), SWAY (2), DDC, CQP, AQXP, MRTX, SYUT, REV, MEET, HTWR, IGLD, ERS, AHP, MAXD, STRS, IBIO, ABER & CQP

13G's: STRP, AL, OUTR, HEES, QNST, AEMD, GNVC, FTK, FOMX, TAT, VNDA, LCM, INF, JCE, IOC, INOV, GNMK, HUM, FBHS, HAR, FLR, ENZR, GWRE, EGN, EGP, BOTA, GNVC, BTAHF, MYOS, ORIT & CTG

Beginning with the insider buying, the largest purchase was for PSX fro $121,457,348 worth of shares bought by Berkshire Hathaway. The other substantial buy that struck me today was made by Julian Baker who bought more of AQXP which increased his holdings high enough to now own 40.4% of the company. Julian is always a good hedge founder to follow when it comes to biotechs. The CFO's that I saw buying today work for: SHLM, DTOR, RGC, CERN, SO & CSX.

On the selling list, the sales were for much lower amounts today than the buys. The top sale was nearly $11 million worth of shares sold of BDBD followed by almost $6 million worth of shares sold by PANW. The CFO's selling today work for: ACSM, LIOX, ADF, PEO, CVLT, BKEP, BDBD, BOKF, MAC, JPM, KSS, DIS, NOW & MAA. This personally scares me because the insiders tend to know what's up with the financials & tend to protect themselves into earnings reports. Seeing DIS on this list makes me think they may miss their estimate. Disney is a long hold for me that I was looking to average down on next week but now I'm having second thoughts.

Either way, I hope everyone is able to enjoy their long weekend & hopefully this write up helps you in someway to be more prepared for the bell on Tuesday.
